nice weather

After a week of weather in the 70s, I wondered if I did actually move to Alaska or if I ended up on some other nearly tropical rainforest island. I did not expect blossoms on trees or brightly colored flowers either and yet, here they are.

Ryan and I went to Pats Landing on Wednesday evening to enjoy the warmth and the light. Happy eight months!

Yesterday we had a cookout at City Park to enjoy the warm weather. The weather was gorgeous, conversation was great, and dogs were fun. Trey grilled for us, we ate and we talked into the evening.

If this is summer in Alaska, I can definitely get used to this!

hiking and nice weather

Yesterday was a gorgeous day, registering at a high of 66. Although feeling better from being sick the day before, I still was not 100%. Nevertheless, I went for a short hike with Ryan up Rainbow Falls. It's amazing to see the changes in foliage and groundcover now that there is more consistent sun. So much more is growing. It made me realize just how much dies out over the winter. It would have been a gorgeous day to hike and camp overnight but I just wasn't feeling well enough for that. I hope there is another weekend that works out better so that we can do that.

new addition to the living room

A collage of Ryan's photographs now decorate the space between the lamp and the TV stand. They are gorgeous photographs and I love having something on the nearly blank wall. Ryan taught me how to print black and white photographs when we set up the dark room in the bathroom. I took this photo before we hung the prints we made, so I cannot show you at this time. However, it is a pretty neat process.

Mayfest Weekend: Picture post

The view on the way back home.

Ryan overlooking North Harbor.

Mmmm...coffee. It didn't taste like armpits!

Veggie "the Baby" Burrito. Yes, I ate the whole thing.

Ryan had fried halibut.

My salad for lunch on Saturday. Not so exciting. The sandwich was even worse and I couldn't bring myself to finish it. After getting a stomach ache later, I blamed the sandwich.

At the restaurant, Helse's, for lunch.

Ryan changes his lens at Helse's.

more kale seedlings

I think my posts on kale seedlings will stop now. Every day they got longer and longer and look like this.

This last photo is of the "greenhouse" top to my seed case.

kale seeds: day 5

Just when I thought they couldn't grow anymore overnight like the previous night, there they were again. Grow grow grow, little seedlings!

kale seeds: day 4 - explosive growth!

Immediately overnight there was tons of growth! Look how long these are after just one night from the previous day. It gets light about 3/3:30 AM here and I think all that extra light certainly helps the growing process.

sushi

The past couple nights we have had sushi in some form or another for dinner. It has been pretty tasty! Ryan's featured dungeness crab, veggies and rice while mine included veggies, rice and tofu.

kale seeds: day 3

I didn't get a very good photo yesterday, but you can see that my seeds are already sprouting. I didn't expect to see them until a few more days from now!

kale seeds

Today I started sprouting my little kale seeds. I should have started it a few weeks ago, but have been too busy to do so. Today I bought a pack of these peat things, watered them and planted the seeds. The peat discs are neat because they expand three times the size once they get wet. I put the lid on to the container and now I just have to wait for them to sprout.
